Top Things to do in Malta in Autumn

Autumn in Malta

As the hot summer sun sets on the Maltese islands and the tan lines begin to fade, we welcome autumn with open arms, as though it were our favourite flavour of ice cream. Malta, unlike most countries, shifts from scorching heat to slightly colder days. The days are shorter, but fear not, the list of activities for travellers only gets longer!

1. Time to explore Malta’s landscape

With Malta’s temperatures taking a desirable dip, why not grab a pair of walking shoes and venture outside? Autumn offers a range of Instagram-worthy hues as you meander through the north of the island. Keep an eye out for some of the first flowers blooming after an exhausting summer sun. Breathe in the fresh air and admire the beautiful view of the azure seas that surround this picturesque island.

2. Top up on some vitamin D

One of the perks of being in Malta during the autumn season is that even though the air is cooler, the sea is still warm enough to enjoy a relaxing dip. The beaches are less packed at this time of year, as people are at the office and children at school. Malta boasts with many of its sandy beaches that attract thousands of tourists each year. Visit one of the coastal shores for a swim, or even to simply enjoy the feel of sand on your feet.

3. Soak up some culture

If you’re looking to immerse yourself in Malta’s rich history, you must visit Valletta; Malta's capital city. Although Malta is only 246km long, it makes up for its size with its abounding history. Valletta is sure to satisfy any visitor with its museums, local restaurants, attractions and shops, all within walking distance. Valletta was also named a UNESCO World Heritage Site due to its history and buildings. Mdina, the former capital city, is also worth a visit this autumn. Known as the silent city, its contrast from bustling Valletta ensures the best of both worlds. Mdina is also the highest point in Malta and allows you to get a 360 view of the island, so make sure to sneak a few shots whilst you're there!

4. Go – Gozo

Plan a visit to the sister island Gozo this autumn! This small island is only 67km, but it brims with beaches, restaurants, beautiful greenery, breathtaking views and its stunning capital; Victoria. Travelling to the island only takes twenty minutes by ferry. Gozo offers a greener side and also features some of the most scenic spots on the islands. Gozo has been awarded the Quality Coast Award featuring some of the most pristine beaches.

Lovely isn’t it? Malta sure is a gem that’s yet to be discovered. Let us know which activities you choose to pick up throughout your stay in Malta!
