Maltese Weather in Summer

Maltese weather guarantees a worry-free holiday at any time of year thanks to its warm summers and mild winters. In Malta, the temperature averages at 23-degree Celsius throughout the year but meteorologists have recorded temperatures which have topped 40-degrees Celsius as well as dropped to under 1-degree Celsius, in the past.

Maltese weather features an average of 90 precipitation days and over 300 days of sunshine per year.

So what do you have to expect if you’re visiting Malta in summer? Maltese summers are long and dry with July and August seeing the warmest temperatures. In fact, the temperature averages at 31-degrees Celsius across these months. If you’re accustomed to the wet British climate, the high temperatures might scare you off but the Maltese mitigate the heat by spending their days at the beach. In fact, sea temperatures average at 26-degrees Celsius in summer - offering a much-needed rest from the balmy Maltese weather.

Throughout Summer, the Maltese enjoy around 15 hours of sunshine with the sun typically rising at 05:48 and setting at 20:22. This makes for plenty of time to enjoy the island during your stay.

So what should you pack to avoid the Maltese weather from catching you off-guard? First things first - a swimming suit is a must when visiting the Maltese islands in summer. The island features numerous beautiful beaches which will help you fight off the heat when the temperatures get feisty. Ditch the jeans and opt for shorts, summer dresses and skirts instead as long pants are unbearable in the summer. Same goes for shirts. We recommend you stick to t-shirts and tank tops during your stay to avoid overheating.

While the above tips will avoid you feeling hot, the most important advice we can give you is to always apply sunscreen before leaving your accommodation. Heavy sun rays can cause a lot of damage to the skin which can be easily counteracted with a simple layer of sun cream. In addition to this, we recommend you wear a cap and sunglasses to protect yourself further from the sun’s exposure. Above all, make sure you keep hydrated through the day to stay in the best shape!
